Delete your account
How to ask
Email hello@checkuponme.app from the address you signed in with, with "Delete my account" as the subject. You do not have to give a reason.
How we check that it is you
Signing in to CheckUpOnMe means receiving a one-time code at your email address, so the address is the account. A mail from that address is the same proof a sign-in is.
There is deliberately no web form here. Anyone can type someone else's address into a form, and this is a safety account: having it deleted by a stranger is a real harm, not an inconvenience.
If you can no longer receive mail at that address, write anyway and say so. We will look for another way to be sure. If we cannot be sure, we will refuse, because refusing is the safer mistake.
How long it takes
We aim to finish within 7 days, and the GDPR allows us at most 30 days. You get one mail when it is done. There is nothing to undo afterwards.
What is removed
| What | Everything in it |
|---|---|
| Your account | Your email address and account id, removed from the sign-in system. |
| Your profile | Your display name. |
| Your check-ins | Every check-in you started, including its times, its state and any reason you wrote. |
| Your location fixes | Every fix stored against your check-ins, including any the routine purge has not reached yet. |
| Your pairings and invites | Every pairing you are part of and every invite code you created. You come off the other person's list, and their check-ins stop being able to alert you. |
| Your phones | Every push token registered for you, so no phone receives another alert for you. |
| Your alert records | What was sent for your check-ins, what was delivered, and what your contact acknowledged. |
| Your usage analytics | Your analytics profile and its events, deleted from PostHog on the same request. |
What deletion cannot reach
- An alert your contact already received is a notification on their phone. We cannot reach into it. It says only that you had not checked in, never your reason or your location.
- Routine encrypted backups roll over on their own schedule. Nothing is ever restored from them except to recover from a failure.
- The mail in which you asked, kept as the record that you asked and that we did it, and nothing beyond that.
Deleting the app is not the same thing
What each of those things is, and why it exists at all, is set out in the privacy policy. Questions go to support.
